Convert Photo To Embroidery
Feb 17th, 2007

Just as I'm finishing up putting out this issue of Bobbin-Buzz, Holly is browsing through photo's of Pearl, looking for the one she wants to digitize. I think we have a couple thousand pictures of her already so there's a lot of browsing to do!

Once she's picked the one she wants to use, it will take her an hour or two to convert that photo into a design using PatternMaker/ME. Technically speaking, it's not "digitizing" but I still don't know how to expain why it's not except to say that you don't create the stitches the same way.

If you want to convert a PHOTO to a DESIGN then this is the program to do it with...

I (Love / Hate) Computers! (Pick One For Today)

Last night I burned a CD of a video file I just created. I also added a new program to my computer, and did a couple other routine things. Then I started working on something else and noticed that my computer was now acting funny. Okay... "Funny" might not be the right word. How about "Wrong!" Yeah - that's the word.

Suddenly opening a program took minutes instead of seconds. Not good. Definitely not good at all!

I tried all kinds of ways to fix the slow computer issues... Unloaded the newly added software, cleaned out the registry, searched through the files to see what was running and hogging RAM... etc. Finally figured it out. When I ejected the CD from the drive, everything worked fine again.

I LOVE computers becaause of the great things we can do with them. I HATE computers because of the way they sometimes suck up hours of our time to fix something really simple.

How do you feel about your computer today?

Membership: It's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore!

We have many members tell us that our forums are the first place they go when they get on line in the morning and the last place they check before they sign off for the evening. Why? It's the fun they're having talking about embroidery with the friends they've made from around the world on ArtisticThreadWorks.

There are nearly 180,000 posts in the ATW forums after less than 3 years online. This is THE place to look when you have questions about embroidery or just want to read what others are doing. But don't just check into the forum when you get up in the morning... read it at night too, because...

Lessons Learned At The Mouse-House!

Holly and I spent a few hours wandering around DisneyWorld's Magic Kingdom this week. We had a great time watching some of the shows, watching the kids have fun, and picking up some gifts for the twins. But that's not why we go there.

Every time we walk through a Disney park it gives us ideas of how to do things better in our own business. And that's one of the major reasons we go to these places. This visit was no exception. We came up with two really spectacular ideas. I can't share them with you at this time since we don't know IF we can apply them the way we are thinking of here until we do a little experimenting but if the tests work out then we'll have some great new additions to ATW shortly.

One thing we are always amazed with is how they are able to handle the crowds of people effortlessly. Not that we have logistics problems with ATW, but we are still amazed by what they do. For example, the mouse-house has it's own bus system and it's huge. I would guess they have more busses than some major cities in the USA. And they've built their own roads to carry those people on too. Just amazing.

Every business owner should take a day now and then to go through a big amusement park or attraction and see how they do things. Ideas are all around you there - just pick up on a few of them and make it a part of your own business.
