Grab A Cup And Relax With Bobbin-Buzz!

The first issue of Bobbin-Buzz was published in November of 2002.  That's almost 250 issues now - one per week for 5 years. And every week it seems like there's more to talk about than the previous week. What a great hobby!

We've been in the camper for about 10 days now and Holly set up her Ellegante on Wednesday for the first time in here.  It's a big machine but it fits nicely on top of the crate we have set up for the girls. I think it will work out just fine in that spot.

Computer Help: Transferring Data To New Computer

(Here's an example of the sort of questions answered in our "Computer Help" forum ...)

"I just bought a new computer. I had windows XP, but now will have Windows Vista. I have a lot of designs in my Designer Gallery and other things, (pictures, etc.), would like to know if there is a way to transfer all the data, etc. from one computer to the new one. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Beth "

Beth - There are programs that automate the data transfer. Here's one... Easy PC Transfer

Thank You ATW Members!

Last week I published an article about Joey Richardson's fight to go to the Para-Olympics. Many of you responded and his mom Leslie reports that they have reached their goal and will be able to take Joey to the games and his friend will be able to ride along too. Thank you to everyone that helped out!

New Website...

This site was posted in our forums by Terri (niteyshift) and has 2 alphabets and 124 designs that are all freebies. We haven't test sewn anything but you KNOW to do that before using any design, especially from a new digitizer.

As always - use your own discretion! The designs don't appear to violate any copyright laws but I've been wrong about things before so use good judgement.

Lighten Up!

A man visiting a doctor says... "Doctor I just dropped in to tell you how much I benefited from your treatment."

The doctor replied... "But you're not one of my patients."

The man said... "I know. But my uncle Bill was, and I'm his heir."

Embird And The Funky-Color-Problem

Many of us have used Embird for years to view designs on our PC. About a year ago and problem has appeared when viewing SOME designs in Embird. The designs appear to be done in "wacky" colors... mostly black, purple, dark blue and similar.

The problem is with how the Embird/Iconizer program reads the colors in a TXT file that includes the number of stitches.

For example, our color charts (as shown below) are made using Designers Gallery. They tell you the color and number of stitches on each thread, along with a lot of other info, including a translation to different thread brands and the corresponding color. Here's what our TXT file looks like...

What Embird is doing is reading the number of stitches (shown in meters) as a COLOR instead of reading the color number in our TXT files. We've emailed the owner of Embird about this problem and so have several other digitizers but so far it hasn't been fixed in the program.

There are three ways to work around this problem until Embird is fixed...

1) You can remove the TXT file from the folder that the designs are located in. The easiest way to do this is to make a Sub-Folder and drag the .TXT files into the sub-folder. Once you do, then Embird no longer has access to the color chart and will read the design file itself to get the colors.

2) You can TURN-OFF the Iconizer feature in Embird as it appears that the bug is in that module of the program.

3) You can use a different program to view designs. I've like Embird for years as a great program for editing embroidery files and I wouldn't want to give it up because of this glitch, but there are other programs on the market that edit embroidery designs.

That's it for today's Bobbin-Buzz! I hope you've all enjoyed this issue and the designs too. Other embroidery newsletters worth reading this week include...
