LOGIN: My Password Was Emailed To Me But I Didn't Request It (0408-1759)

Your password was emailed to you but you didn't request it...

If you entered info into an area called our "resource directory" you will see those emails occasionally. You probably entered a listing of your business or website. That 'resource directory' feature on our site can be used by people that are not members so as part of the process of adding the listing it asks you to make up a password you can use to edit the listing, and it includes a "lost password" link you can click in case you made up a listing and forgot what password you made up for it and need to edit the listing.

What happens is Google uses a computer program (called 'bots' or 'spiders') to examine websites and determine what they are all about and to index what pages link to what other pages and websites. Those bots click every link they can find on every page they examine. When they get to our resource directory pages, they click the "forgot password" link and our programing sends your lost password to you. Sometimes the bots will crawl over a page several times in one day, and other times they won't touch that page again for a couple months.

You can remove your listing from our resource directory and they'll stop coming to you. Another option is to leave the listing there and in the next revision of our website we hope to add a captcha box to that function. A captch box is one of those security things where you have to type in the letters you see in a graphic to get to the next page.
