"Quilters For Charity" A Look Back At 2007
Quilters for Comfort (also known as the "Quilters for Charity") had a tremendous
2007! We grew by leaps and bounds and made so many new friends along the
way. In all, we made nearly 120 quilts in 2007 to donate!
First there were the "kids quilts". Every month we had
a different theme and every month the quilts just got better and better.
January 6 quilts "Girly Things" February 6 quilts
"Sea Creatures" March 9 quilts
"Bears" April 9 quilts
"Flowers" May 6
quilts "Mythical
Creatures" June 13 quilts
"Balloons and Kites" August 11 quilts "Summer
Things"
The total of quilts reached 60…
25 were donated to the "Kids In Distress" in Boca Raton
Fla. 21 have gone to the "Project
Linus" 8 full size quilts were given to 3 different Woman's
shelters in different parts of the country. 4 quilts
are "MIA" (one of our members disappeared) 2 wnt
to "Organization In Texas" for orphaned children
Then there were the "Patriotic Quilts". Along with the
monthly quilts we dedicated July to the armed forces soldiers past and present.
We collected over 1,000 patriotic embroidered squares and set
out to make over 50 lap-size and twin-size quilts for
veterans and military personal in hospitals and retirement homes.
20 of these have been sent to Germany to a military hospital
that our wounded soldiers are air-lifted to. Numerous others have found homes
across the country with veterans.
But we were not done with our group's endeavors… several
very ambitious ladies set out on a campaign to make Christmas stockings for the
troops. One of the ladies found a group in the Chicago area that was collecting
and stuffing the donated stockings so we put out the word and suddenly the
stockings were adding up! We created and donated a total
of 2,021 stockings.
All this has been accomplished by ladies and gentlemen who have never
met in person! Some have spoken over the phone, but most
communicate only on the ArtisticThreadWorks website. But that
will soon change, because along with the 2008 quilts and stockings, we are
planning a "Sew Fest". This will bring some of us together face to
face in July 2008 to spend 4 days making quilts for charities and stockings for
the troops and finally meeting our "internet family" we have come to love.
We need volunteers to make embroidered blocks and to
assemble the quilt tops and quilt them. A little or a lot, whatever you have
time to help with. You don't have to be a quilter to be part of this
group. You don't have to ever want to make a quilt. You don't even have to
have an embroidery machine. All you need is a desire to give to the less
fortunate and we will find something for you to help with!
Don't be shy! Jump on over to the ArtisticThreadWorks site and join the
experience. Just click into "Discussion" and choose the "Charity" forum on
the menu of forums near the top of the pages.
Now on to a bigger 2008! Cathy B.
