It is NOT okay to "share" designs that you have purchased, unless the person that created the designs said it's okay -- and I have never seen a digitizer say that yet!
So when you see a person asking "Where can I get _____ designs?" it's always safe to tell them "I found that design on _____ web site" or something similar. They are probably NOT asking for someone to share the design illegally but rather are asking "Where can I find this design?"
Sometimes people ask us to digitize a Disney or Sponge-Bob or Warner Brothers cartoon designs or similar characters. We won't do that. Unless Disney, Warner Brothers or Sponge-Bob's creators give their permission to use their characters, making the designs would be a copyright violation.
There are people that scoff at copyright violations. We see people selling obviously illegal designs on eBay every day. But just because someone is doing it and for now is "getting away with it" doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.
Spam and Copyright infringements are currently two very hot areas for federal investigators. Today (8-25-04) the Feds arrested over 100 people for spamming. (See article in USA today at... http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/techpolicy/2004-08-25-spam-crackdown_x.htm) That's just the tip of the iceberg!
The feds are currently investigating over 7,000 people suspected of copyright violations. Look what happened to Napster users who "shared" music!
Beware of scams by copyright violators. When you see offers to sell a CD with "5,000 Disney Embroidery Designs" on it for $20.... the person is obviously a thief. Do you really want to give that person your credit card number or PayPal account name?
