Cleaning Out Your Sewing Room Closet?
You don't have to be a "business" to place an ad in our Daily News!
I've made TWO VIDEOS that show how to post an ad in the Daily News.
The first video is for everyone posting an ad. Click here to view video #1 on posting an ad.
The second video is specifically for our members who are not running a business and don't have a website to send potential buyers to. Maybe you're cleaning out your closets or reducing your stash (why would anyone do that!?) or just making room for a new toy. In that case you'll want to watch video #2 that is just for non-business owners who want to sell something in our Daily News. Click here to watch video #2 on posting an ad for private sellers.
The rest of this page shows the details of what's in video #2 for non-business owners want to sell something in the Daily News.
You don't have to be a "business" to place an ad in our Daily News... But you do need to do these 4 things:
1) Put "PRIVATE SALE" in the TITLE field.
2) Include 'contact info' in the TEXT field.
3) Put a web address in the URL field.
4) Include a photo with your ad.
I'll explain each of these steps in detail here...
1) Put " PRIVATE SALE: " in the "TITLE" section of the ad when you place it...
Then fill in what you're selling in the rest of the title space. For example, if you're selling extra hoops you have for a machine that you traded in and no longer have, then you would make the title line say... "PRIVATE SALE: Hoops for PR600" Of course, you would change the part after "PRIVATE SALE:" to say whatever it is that you're selling.
Using "PRIVATE SALE:" will alert readers that you are not a business and you don't have a website that you're selling stuff on. Instead, they should look in the ad for contact info showing how you want them to contact you.
The PRIVATE SALE: (followed by your item) will look like this...

Include PRIVATE SALE: in the TITLE Box, Contact Info in the TEXT box, and a URL in the URL LINK box.

|
2) Include your contact info in the "TEXT" box.
When you fill in the text section of the ad, be sure you include your name and either a phone number you'd like people to call about the item your selling, or an email address you'd like them to send emails to about the item. Or you can put BOTH in the ad. It's up to you, but you'll need to include some way for people to let you know that they want to buy your item.
The text box should look something like this...

Include PRIVATE SALE: in the TITLE Box, Contact Info in the TEXT box, and a URL in the URL LINK box.

|
3) Fill in the Link to URL: field with one of 4 possible things you can do...
As an individual there are four things you could put there since you don't have your own website. I have listed them here as Options "A" through "D".
NOTE: Option "A" is the EASIEST to do, Option "B" is a little harder, and so on. Choose Option "A" if the rest seem to difficult to do.
Option "A": You can copy this and put it in the LINK TO URL field...
http://www.tradingthreads.com
and when you put it into the URL box it will look like this...

Put either http://www.tradingthreads.com in the URL box...

|
OR
Option "B": If you have also placed your ad in the MEMBERS ONLY CLASSIFIEDS of ATW you can copy the URL from your ad and place it into that URL box instead. Just go to your ad in the Classifieds and highlight/copy the URL from the top of the window.
It will look like this (but with different numbers at the end)...
http://www.artisticthreadworks.com/members/forum/openthread.cfm?forum=3&ThreadID=41313#237188
and when you put it into the URL box it will look like this...

OR you can refer readers to our Members-Only Classifieds by including a link to your ad...
|
|
OR
Option "C": If you have also placed this ad in the Members-Only Classifieds you can just link to the classified section of the site and let people find your ad in the classifieds section. To do that you could just copy this line and paste it into the ad...
http://www.artisticthreadworks.com/members/forum/openforum.cfm?forum=3
OR
Option "D": If you have listed the itme on ebay you can add a link to your ebay auction by copying the auction URL and pasting the link into the URL field here. That will bring some extra folks over to your ebay auction to bid. The only challenge with doing this is that some ebay auction links can get REALLY LONG and may be too long to fit into the space we have for a URL.
The solution is to make it a TINY URL instead. Copy the ebay auction link then paste it into the URL field.
http://www.tinyurl.com
and paste the link into the open box. Then click the button that says "Make Tiny URL" and it will convert the 200+ characters from the ebay auction into a short little "tinyurl" address that you can copy and paste into our "MAKE URL LINK" box.
4) Include a photo of the item you are listing for sale...
Take a digital photo of the item you're selling and move it to your computer as you normally do with photos. Use the "BROWSE" button to find the photo and select it. Our system will change your photo into the right sizes automatically, just like our normal photo gallery does.
