Embroidery Tip... Keeping Designs Catalog'ed & Backed-Up!
" When I download designs, I put them all into a folder named "New Designs". I put the designs I purchase into a "Purchased" folder and freebies into a "Freebies" folder. Once a month I sort all of the designs into their appropriate folders, ie. Alphabets, Fashion, Children, etc.
At the end of 6-12 months when I have gathered what I think is quite a few designs, I write them to a cd (making several back-ups) and put the month and year on the label. Then I make copies on our printer/copier (hard copies and all black and white) of the designs in each folder before I delete them on the computer. On the copied pages, I put the month/year that corelates with the burned cd.
I have a file box with hanging folders that are marked the same as the folders on the computer. I file the hard copies and when someone wants to see what kind of "flowers" I have, I pull out the hard copies to show them. This system works great. I know exactly where each design is by browsing hard copies in the hanging folder, that is marked with which cd the design is on by the month/year! Many times I go to bed just to look at my designs to choose a project(s) that I want to do next! No more looking through tons of designs on the computer, which my husband definitely appreciates."
