Larry grew up near Dover, Delaware and moved to the St. Louis area after high school.  He took a job with a finance company in Collinsville, Illinois and worked his way into a branch manager position.  The company transferred him to Chicago in 1980 where he met Holly while attending church. 

Larry attended DeVry University in the evenings to earn an undergrad degree in Electrical Engineering. He eventually took a job working for an industrial supply company in the sales and marketing areas.  Larry developed software to forecast the sales and call volumes for the company as well as implementing their first EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) software, a computer-to-computer procurement system.

While working his job in the daytime, Larry helped Holly in developing the business systems and computer programs to grow the music company.  All of the programs to run the music store were written by Larry.  One of them was developed into a stand-alone program for tracking the work in the repair department, others handled accounting and marketing functions.
