LOGIN: Username And Password Don't Work (0408-349)

Update:   The most common reason for not being able to login is entering your email address instead of the username you created.  Please be sure you are using the username you made when you set up your membership and not your email address as your login username.

I have so many passwords that sometimes I forget which one to use on which site.  I know that happens to almost everyone at times.

Please be sure you are using the right username and password.  You can have them sent to you automatically using our "Forgot Password" tool.  On the login page just under the place where you put your username and password is a "Forgot Password?" link -- just click it and fill in your email address.  Your info will be emailed to you automatically so you can check that it is right.

If you ARE using a valid Username and Password and still can't get into the Members area then some program on your pc is blocking access to the secure areas. Here's the scoop...

When you login, a "cookie" is saved in your pc memory temporarily.  It acts like a "key".  Every time you change to another private page, your pc uses that key to allow itself access.  When you logout of our site, that cookie is automatically deleted.

Access requires that "cookies" be allowed on your pc.  There are three possibilities -- someone has either turned off "Allow Cookies" on your pc OR some software program has turned it off without your knowlege.

How to check on your pc's "Allow Cookies"...

I don't know every program people use for surfing the internet but the most common program is Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer and click on the "Tools" menu item.  Click on "Options" then click on the "Privacy" tab.

There is a vertical slider bar in the window.  It should be set to "Accept All Cookies" or "Low" or "Medium".  (I keep mine on "Medium.")   If it is set to "Block All Cookies" - then you will need to slide the button down to medium.

You may not have changed this setting but some program you installed may have changed it for you without even telling you.  (Aren't computers fun?)

Even if it is set to "Medium", your pc may still be blocking cookies IF you have added security software like "Norton Internet Security" or "Zone Alarm Security" or a similar program.  These programs have their own cookies control built-in.  You will have to open the control panel for whichever program like that you are using and either set it to allow cookies or turn that program off when you want to go to a secure website.

(Please Note:  I am NOT talking about Norton AntiVirus or other Anti-Virus programs -- those do not turn off your pc cookies and should be running all the time.  I am only talking about "internet security" and similar programs.)  If you need help with your Norton program - please contact your family pc guru.

If you are trying to access our site through your pc at work and you can't get in, then it could be that your system administrator is blocking all cookies at the server level.  You may want to talk with the administrator about that or you may want to just keep a low profile and do your downloading from home.  ;-)

Finally, if you can't login with the correct username and password, please let me know. I will try to login with your info just to be sure there is nothing strange about the username/password combination.  Then we can work from there to what is causing your pc to misbehave.

PS:  Once in a while our site (like any website) will have problems.  If you normally have no problems logging in but suddenly the site seems "unresponsive" then we could be in the prcess of re-booting our server.  In that case, you should be able to login again in a few minutes.  If you are reading THIS page on our site, it probably isn't an issue with our server.  :-)
