Viewing Designs On Your PC
For seeing the design on your pc, you would need a piece of software that lets you view the designs in the sewing files. There are several choices that do this, but my favorite is called "Embird".
It is my favorite because... 1) it (almost) never crashes and because 2) the price is very low compared to most of the other software that will do this job.
(If you don't have Embird already you can download a 30-day free trial copy here - just click on 'Secrets of Embroidery' and then "Embird" for the 30-day free trial! It only took me a few minutes of using Embird to realize I couldn't let the free trial expire!)
What IS Embird? It is a two-part program used for embroidery. The first part is called "Embird Manager." It allows you to unzip, convert designs to different embroidery formats, and view the designs on your pc. Here is a screen shot of Embird in the Manager mode...
The second part is called "Embird Editor." The Editor allows you to resize designs, change density, delete parts of designs, split designs, change colors, and do other things with the designs as well. Hee is a screen shot in the Editor mode...
Embird also has some "plugins." These are extra modules you can buy that allow you to do additional things with the designs. My favorite embroidery program is actually Embird with the "Iconizer" plugin module added. Once you have installed Embird with the Iconizer plugin module, browsing through your embroidery file folders will never be the same. Why? Because you no longer see just a file name, you now see what the design looks like without opening it! Here's a screen shot of "My Computer" but with Embird/Iconizer installed...
In this picture, the "View" mode on my computer has been set to medium-size thumbnails. You can also set it to larger or smaller thumbnails as well as other options. When set to icons, files or details views, you see a tiny icon of what the design looks like.
If you want more details without opening the design, you can right-click on it. When the right-click menu comes up, you will see a large view of the design and below that, the details of the designs size and stitch-count.
Here's where you can get Embird with Iconizer for a 30-day free trial. It only took me 30-minutes of free trial time to know that I wanted Embird, but you can use the program then decide if it's worth it to you...
