Discussion Forum Etiquette
by Larry Pike

Not your usual "Yada-Yada-Yada"...

The Discussion Forum is really the heart of our community. It is a place to relax and have fun, to get help with embroidery, share ideas, and friendship. In general our discussion forum is...
"Where the embroidery community meets to unravel!"

We have 5 RULES we ask everyone to follow while in the forums...

1) Be Nice!  Nobody intentionally hurts other peoples feelings, but sometimes we can say (or type) something unintentionally that another person would find hurtful. Please be careful that what you say isn't hurtful to others.

2) If Your Feelings Get Hurt...  Please DO NOT tell off another person by posting a message to them (or about them) in the Discussion Forum! (Also known as "Flaming")   Instead, I ask you to CONTACT ME about the problem. I will delete any offensive posts from the forum.  I will also contact the other person if needed.

Anyone posting an attack on another member has violated the user agreement and their membership is subject to immediate termination!

3) "OT:" The letters "OT" stand for "Off Topic".  Please add "OT:"  in front of any message that is totally unrelated to embroidery. Some members only come into the forum to read about embroidery and don't want to get involved in the personal lives of others. Those members know to simply skip past the subjects that start with "OT".  Other members want to know the other ATW members personally and we are happy to see the forum used for personal exchanges too. Please add "OT" in front of posts that are completely off the embroidery topic.

4) Sharing Designs...  It is illegal to sell or give an embroidery design to another person unless you are the digitizer of that design. We have ZERO TOLERANCE on any attempts to share designs illegally!  If you are not already familiar with what is and is not legal to do with embroidery designs then please click here and read this page.

5) Advertising...  Our Discussion Forum is for discussions, not for advertising. If you want to advertise something, please use the "Classifieds" link on the top navbar. You are welcome to advertise your website or other embroidery related items for free in our "Classifieds" area.

That's it for "Rules" of the discussion forum. Below are some things you might find very helpful too.  The following are not "Rules" but are "Tips" you may find handy!

Un-Answered Posts...  If you post a message and it doesn't get answered, please don't think people are ignoring you.  Messages go by awfully fast in the forum and your posting can get buried at the bottom of the page in a matter of minutes! It can also be that you asked a question that nobody knows the answer to so nobody responded. Feel free to repost your message but add the word "HELP" in front of it if appropriate or the words "Second Request:".

Chat Room... We have a Chat Room in ATW where you can chat live with other members. To get in, just click the Chat link on the top navbar. It is a lot of fun, just be sure you don't have to go to work the next morning.  The busiest time in the Chat Room is late at night. If you go there and there isn't anyone on, login anyway and just wait a few minutes. The same 5 RULES in the forum apply to the Chat Room.

"Prayer Requests"...  Many people want to share prayer requests but feel uncomfortable doing this in an open community.  Others that are not Christians do not want to  read posts about our spirit lives.  For this reason we have created 2 John as a separate discussion forum for Christians. There is a link to 2 John on our top navbar menu.

Design Ideas...  If you are interested in having a special design made, please see this page.

Frequently Asked Questions... Some questions about our website are asked so often that we have posted answers where you can see them easily. It is called the FAQ Page.

Photos... We love to see photos of embroidery projects! You are welcome to post a photo in our discussion forum, but it is easier to post photos in our  Photo Gallery! There is a link to our Photo Gallery on our top navbar under the word "Photos".   Our photo gallery software automatically resizes your photo to fit nicely on our pages.

If your photo uploads too slowly then it's probably a very large picture file. If you can resize it on your computer to be 500 pixels wide then it will upload a lot faster! If you don't know how to resize a photo, our software will do it for you, it will just take longer to upload.

More Discussion Forum Tips... Here is a page with several more tips to help you get more out of our Discussion Forum.

Discussion Forum Search Tool... Our Discussion Forum has a built-in "Search Tool" that is extremely useful to anyone that knows how to use it. Simply click the link in the forum menu bar and type into the search box the term you want more info about. There are thousands of posts each month in the forum about embroidery. Chances are good that any question you are thinking of has already been asked and answered. It's okay to ask again, but if you're in a hurry to get an answer, it may already be here!

Here is an example of a search in the forum for the words "Designer 1". As you can see - there were 89 previous posts about the Designer 1 when I did this search! To do your own search, just click on the link that says "Search Messages" in the center of the tool bar when you are in the forum.
